Building a trustworthy feature taxonomy

How shared definitions turn fragmented events into an intelligible model of product behaviour.

A feature taxonomy connects implementation detail to the language of product decisions. Without one, reports drift as teams group events differently.

Model capabilities at useful levels

Separate broad capabilities from individual controls. Analysts can then move from a portfolio view to a specific interaction without losing context.

Assign ownership

Definitions need a steward, a change process and visible version history. Governance should be light enough to use and strict enough to preserve comparability.

Test against real questions

Try the taxonomy on recent product decisions. If it cannot express how users combine key capabilities, revise it before scaling the tracking plan.

Apply the thinking

Bring clarity to your own feature data.
